OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

Pharmacology is the “study of the responses of living organisms to chemical stimuli”.

Word ‘pharmakon’ drug and ‘logy’ study. Various branches of pharmacology include; Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, Chemotherapy, Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacogenetics, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacoeconomics. Pharmacology is uniquely positioned among the medical sciences as it contributes to all other branches of medicine.

 

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To be a distinguished unit, in the field of pharmacology by providing excellent teaching   and training of the undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

     1. Stressing on evidence based medicine and rational use of drugs.

2. Enhancement and improvement of the research activities in the field of pre-clinical and clinical pharmacology.

3. Effective implementation of Pharmacology CBME curriculum for the undergraduates, including various teaching learning methods like integrated teaching, case based pharmacotherapy, AETCOM & skill development.

4. Sensitizing medical students and faculty towards effective ADR reporting.

Department is situated in the first floor of the college building with adequate infrastructure, which includes

      with adequate number of trained staff.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE DEPARTMENT:

  • Undergraduate teaching: MBBS, BDS, BPT & Allied health sciences.
  • Post graduate teaching: MD Pharmacology
  • Functioning as Adverse drug reaction Monitoring Centre for Pharmacovigilance activities

 

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:

  • Undergraduate: Interactive lectures, small group teaching, integrated teaching, student seminars, tutorials, role plays, quiz programmes, hands on practical sessions, formative assessment and feedback, mentorship activities.
  • Postgraduate: Theory & practical classes, seminar, journal club, case presentation, group discussion, district residency programme, clinical posting, research work and dissertation writing.

 

RESEARCH WORK IN THE DEPARTMENT:   ----

1. To study In Silico molecular docking and in vivo  anxiolytic  & anticonvulsant activity of Rosmarinus  officinalis in  experimental animals by Dr.Netra,  Dr.Yasmeen Maniyar.

2. Evaluation of Antihyperlipidemic activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Rosmarinus Officinalis against high fat diet induced hyperlipidemia in albino rats by Dr.Netra, Dr. Yasmeen Maniyar.

3. Evaluation of Antidiabetic activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Rosmarinus Officinalis in alloxan induced diabetic albino rats by Dr.Netra, Dr. Yasmeen Maniyar.

4. Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Antimicrobial use and Resistance in Medical Students. Dr. Yasmeen Maniyar, Dr. Dattatraya Joshi, Dr. Siddarameshwar C. Bidarurmath, Dr Sahil R Attar.
