1. Trauma care
Department offers 24 hours emergency and trauma care. We have well trained trauma team to handle any polytrauma patients which consists of orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeon, general surgeons, Intensivist and ambulance services. We have a fairly large team which helps us to handle mass casualties and emergencies.
2. Spine
We conduct spine clinics once a week in OPD. Here low back pain and neck pain are treated according to latest protocols. Due emphasis is given to teach patients prevention of back problems. We have well trained spine surgeons who perform lumbar and thoracic spine surgeries regularly.
3. Paediatric orthopaedics
We conduct paediatric orthopaedic clinic once a week in OPD .This helps us to take special care of paediatric orthopaedic problems like congenital anomalies ,cerebral palsy,CTEV etc.
4. Arthroplasty
We have been doing Joint replacement surgeries regularly since last 5years. We have well equipped OT to make possible these surgeries.we conduct Arthroplasty clinic once a week.
5. Arthroscopy and sports medicine
We have state of the art arthroscopy instruments and equipments and knee joint arthroscopic procedures are regularly performed.we conduct Arthroscopy clinic once a week.
Operation Theatre
We have two major and one minor Operation Theatres with pre-op and post-op wards . OT is well equipped with C-arm image intensifier, orthopaedic tables, all instruments and implants including trauma, replacement and spinal surgeries. Teaching activities
The department presently has graduates Five MS 2019 year. They are trained to be complete orthopaedic surgeons by the time they complete their course. They have regular teaching activities like weekly grand rounds, seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, mortality meetings, clinicopathological presentations,x-ray discussions, etc. They are also encouraged to make independent decision during their course under supervision.
In addition undergraduate students are posted to learn basic orthopaedic skills. They are taught how to approach a patient with musculoskeletal problems to arrive at a clinical diagnosis and treatment. They are trained to manage polytrauma patients in an emergency.
During internship MBBS graduates are taught the treatment of common orthopaedic ailments.
Research activities
The department is involved in various research activities and the faculty members have articles published in reputed journals to their credit.
CME programs
The Department of orthopaedics and BDOA (a district level orthopaedic surgeons association) conducts monthly meetings to encourage exchange of ideas by all orthopaedic surgeons of the region. Regular state level CMEs are held in specialty subjects every year.
