Department of Pharmacology

Pharmacology, an important branch of Medical Science, deals with drugs. There is a phenomenal growth of Pharmacology in the last decade because of introduction of new drugs.The important aim of Pharmacology in undergraduate (M.B.B.S) teaching is to impart the essential information about drugs, which forms the backbone of Rational Therapeutics.

The well-designed departmental infrastructure includes laboratories for experimental and clinical Pharmacology, well-furnished demonstration room with modern teaching aid, well-equipped research lab, spacious departmental library and museum with a wide variety of charts and drugs.

The “Pharmacological Museum” gives a vivid display of concepts of essential drugs, Therapy Rationale, detailed information about each and every drug, formulations available, brands in the market etc. It also provides the student with historical aspects of medicines, evolution of Pharmacology, lives of scientists who contributed to the science of Pharmacology etc.

The Department maintains an “Animal House” of its own, maintained strictly as per the recommendations of UFAW hand Book of Animal Care and CPCSEA. Thus the Animal House has a Breeding and Temperature-Humidity Control Facility, an Operation Theatre, a Post-Mortem Room and a Quarantine Room. The services of a qualified Veterinary Surgeon are made use of regularly.

The Animal House is registered with the Government of India under CPCSEA. Animal House is registered with Animal Welfare Board of India. Reg.No:829/ac/04/CPCSEA/10.08.2003 Animal Experiments are guided by institutional Animal Ethics Committee.
