Department of Surgery of S. N. Medical College is one of the best organized departments.

• It has a strong faculty position, more than the requirement as per MCI norms along with super specialties in Urology, Pediatric Surgery and Plastic Surgery.
• The teachers at its credit are dedicated, hardworking and committed for teaching, they have the zeal to learn and academically update them selves by attending CME’s Workshops & conferences.
• The infrastructure of the department is adequate to handle undergraduate and post graduate studies. Department library has more than 100 – 150 reference books, adequate national and international journals . The Departmental library has internet access all 24 hrs for the benefit of the students and staff.
• Teaching aids like operative CD’s, OHP Sheet notes, theory CD’s Etc are available.
• The operation theaters (3 in Nos.)  are well equipped with state of art gadgets, for General Surgery work   Laparoscopic Surgery, Endoscopic Urological Surgery and Trauma care,
• The Operation Theatre have C.C.T.V for teaching the Students and demonstration of operative steps and procedure live.
• The Department of Radiology has a feather in its cap of establishing a MRI Centre (1.5 Ton Capacity Tesla) in our College, backed by CT Scan, USG, Doppler studies. Normal and contrast X-rays are available all 24 hours.
• Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, Clinical Central Laboratory facility is available round the clock.
• The out patient department is attended by 4 Units. OPD has a demonstration room which can accommodate 50 – 60 Students for clinical demonstration, clinical discussions of cases.
• Department has a minor OT facility in O.P.D for minor procedures to be done and demonstrated to the students.
  
• The inpatient wards are well placed with good light and cross ventilation and adequate space for the comfort of the Patients. It has a demonstration / procedure room with side laboratory attached for students to do lots of investigation and clinical procedure.
• In addition to General Wards we have a state of art well equipped SICU, Burn Unit, Trauma care Unit, PICU deluxe rooms & private wards.
• Students are exposed to lot of clinical work as our college drains patients from near by places with an average O.P.D attendance of 600 – 800 cases.
• Academically students are exposed to didactic lectures, seminars, clinical meetings, journal clubs etc. The academic activities are conducted as per the syllabus of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science. Bengalooru.
• We are proud to have conducted CME’s in 2005, 2006 and “Surgifest 07’’, CME and live workshop in 2007. Bimonthly a Guest lecture is arranged by inviting eminent teachers for updating our knowledge and for students benefit.
• Department of Surgery is the host for 28th KSC-ASICON 2010 scheduled to be on 19th to 21st February 2010.
